In spite of all the fuss surrounding replica Tiffany jewelry, it is conspicuously absent from the new book about Tiffany jewelry. Tiffany Style, by John Loring is an insiders’ look at the world of Tiffany jewelry written by the man who was design director of that most famous purveyor of luxury goods.
The book tells the history of Tiffany & Co., the 171-year-old company. It is filled with more than 200 stunning images, touching on some of the classic designs as well as many of the most interesting and rare designs. The book is a truly engaging tale. It covers the influence of the French Revolution on the company, its’ survival of the Great Depression, right through to the present day incorporation of high profile designer such as Frank Gehry. The history covers almost everything imaginable. However, it interestingly fails to note the rise of replica Tiffany and its influence on the company. Perhaps replica jewelry is something that the company would like to ignore.
The John Loring book may open the door for a new book on the history of replica jewelry. After all, replica jewelry has begun to create its own in depth and engaging history. It would be interesting to see a parallel history to that of Tiffany’s, one that focuses on the replica reaction to the developments by this famous jeweller. Tiffany Style is a welcome addition to the book shelf of any fan of luxury goods. One can only hope that replica Tiffany style hits the shelves soon, given us a whole picture of the development of Tiffany’s and replica Tiffany’s evolution in recent years.
